Day of Caring FAQs

How does of Day of Caring work?

United Way of Whitley County collects project requests in the areas of health, education and financial stability. These projects are then posted on the Day of Caring Project Portal for volunteers to view and select projects they are excited to connect with.
On the morning of Day of Caring, all volunteers will gather for our annual Kickoff Breakfast before heading to their work sites to complete their project.

Who can participate in Day of Caring?

All are welcome to participate in Day of Caring! Volunteer registration begins August 5th. Project applications are available now through July 15th

What kind of projects take place on Day of Caring?

Many different projects are completed on Day of Caring. The most common projects are general maintenance, cleaning and landscaping. View all of the available projects for this year’s Day of Caring.

Does Day of Caring take place if it’s raining?

Day of Caring takes place rain or shine. There is no rain date. Project Site Coordinators should make their best effort to create a “back up” project in the event of inclement weather; however, if there is no secondary plan, Team Leaders and Project Coordinators may work together to determine a time for the team to come back and complete the work.

In the past, United Way of Whitley County matched us with our project. How will we be matched now?

Thanks to our online Day of Caring portal your team will choose their own project! Your Team Leader will view all of the available projects and will take into consideration your team’s skills, abilities and interests to select a project that best fits you as a group!

There are only 4 members on our team but we want to sign up for a project that that requires 15 volunteers. Is that okay?

It is our hope that projects that require a larger volunteer capacity can be saved for teams that have a greater number of volunteers. If you are struggling to find a project for your team please contact our office at 260-244-6454.
